Working with pedigree information
Analyse Fluffy's pedigree up to any generation levels you desire with Fluffy's Log pedigree management.
How to bring up the pedigree information page:
- Click on the "Personal" button on the bottom toolbar.
- Click on the "Pedigree" tab.
For a easier-to-read pedigree chart, Fluffy's Log color-coded the males blue and females pink. In the standard pedigree view, males are arranged on left of the females in the same generation.
The "Sire" combobox and the "Dam" combobox follows the same usage logic and rules. Explanations will be given for the "Sire" combobox and Fluffy's Log's most intelligent users can easily infer the "Dam" version.
The "Sire" combobox contains a drop down list of all possible sires generated by taking gender and species into considerations with a dose of common sense. If a pet is not on the list, it is either a female, the wrong species or it has too close a blood relation with Fluffy that it can not be the sire. For example, Fluffy can not be its own sire. And for instance Fluffy Junior can not be Fluffy's dad.
Editing the "Sire" combobox, instead of selecting from the drop down list, will trigger Fluffy's Log's attempt at auto-completing the sire name with those from the list. If the new sire is not from the list, Fluffy's Log will add a new pet in the sire's name and assign Fluffy's sire to this new pet.
Each pedigree commit is preceded by appropriate sanity checks, as listed below:
- If "Sire" or "Dam" is changed by editing the relevant combobox, Fluffy's Log checks that the new parent is unique.
The inbreeding coefficient, a value frequently used by professional breeders to estimate genetic proximity, is based on Wright's Inbreeding Coefficient calculations. The higher the inbreeding coefficient, the more closely related the ancestors are. Modifying sire or dam will ultimately change Fluffy's and its descendants' inbreeding coefficient. However, to preserve integrity, changing the maximum levels of generations for display in the pedigree chart will not affect the inbreeding coefficient.
For a brief fact summary of any relative in the pedigree chart, click on the corresponding pet. This will bring up the gist of the relative's information on the right text view. If the gist only whetted your appetite for more details, double-click the pet in the chart and Fluffy's Log will load the details.
How to modify reverse pedigree information:
- Select the child pet from the pet list drawer to bring up its personal information. See Working with multiple pets for more information.
- Bring up the pedigree information page. See How to bring up the pedigree information page for more information.
- Edit either the sire or the dam to sever child pet's ties with them.
Fluffy's Log infers Fluffy's reverse pedigree or children information from the pedigree information, hence the reverse pedigree information is not directly modifiable.
How to bring up the classic view:
- Click on the "Personal" button on the bottom toolbar.
- Click on the "Pedigree" tab.
- Check "Classic View".
"Classic view" of the pedigree chart is a compact version, no pet photos are displayed. However, to aid easier reading, males are color-coded blue, always appearing above the females of the same generation. Females, on the other hand are color-coded pink.
